Public Library Networking Focus: My post is concerned with exploring how public libraries can and are making use of computer networking. This involves setting up projects and networking initiatives, helping to raise awareness about public library networking and disseminating research findings. There is a considerable amount of collaboration with Earl and other Resource funded initiatives.

What am I doing now?

• Promoting the 'Public Librarian's Guide to the Internet' - published by Library Association Publishing in Summer 2000
• Writing about E-books - check out my latest piece in January 2001's edition of Ariadne
• Organising the third Public Library Web Officer's Workshop - read about the 2000 event in Ariadne!
• Helping development the technical support service for the New Opportunities Fund digitisation call
• Working on Stories from the Web. This project is looking at how children's libraries can implement the Internet into their services and is being funded by DCMS/Wolfson. The project is lead by Birmingham Central Library with UKOLN, Bristol City Libraries and Leeds City Libraries as partners. I wrote about the project for my column in issue 10 of Ariadne. Have a look at the trial WWW site I created in preparation for Stories from the Web based on Treasure Island.
• Working on a series of issue papers with the EARL Networked Services Policy taskgroup.
• Sitting on the Public Library Research Group Committee.
• Maintaining a set of WWW pages on public library topics.
• Owning the mailing list lis-pub-libs - this is the UK's only public library orientated mailing list.
• Giving various presentations on all sorts of topics - most of them are available in UKOLN's public library pages.

Two snippets of personal information

• I like icecream - particularly Ben and Jerry's - though I can't afford it on a researcher's salary :-(
• I like the paintings of my boyfriend's father - I maintain the Endre Roder website for him. Why not make his day and buy something?
